Nominee for Commissioner of the National Tax Service Lim Gwanghyun has declared assets totaling approximately 2.613 billion won under his own name, as well as those of his spouse, son, and daughter, as of July 3.
According to the personnel hearing request submitted to the National Assembly, Lim reported joint ownership with his spouse of an apartment in Munjeong-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul (exclusive area 59.94 square meters) valued at 646.05 million won, and a jeonse right in Pyeongchang-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul worth 711 million won. Under his own name, Lim declared deposits totaling approximately 683 million won, a car lease deposit of about 38.5 million won, and a rental debt of 50 million won.
His spouse reported a jeonse right in Pyeongchang-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul valued at 396 million won, deposits of approximately 224 million won, and a rental debt of 50 million won. His eldest son was reported to own assets worth about 19.5 million won, while his eldest daughter was reported to have debts totaling approximately 5.9 million won.
Born in 1969, Lim served in the Army from 1990 to 1992 and was discharged with the rank of sergeant upon completing his service. After passing the civil service exam in 1994, he worked in tax administration until his retirement in 2022, holding positions such as Director of the Investigation Bureau at the National Tax Service, Commissioner of the Seoul Regional Tax Office, and Deputy Commissioner of the National Tax Service. Last year, he became a proportional representative for the Democratic Party of Korea in the 22nd general election and is currently serving as a member of the National Assembly.
In the statement of reasons for the personnel hearing request, President Lee Jaemyung said, "The nominee is an economic expert with extensive experience in national tax administration and broad knowledge of economic policy," adding, "He is deemed the right person to faithfully fulfill the core duties of the National Tax Service and to create change and results by designing a new future for tax administration."
