National Policy Planning Committee Incorporates 2040 Generation's Proposals for Redefining Inter-Korean Relations

The National Policy Planning Committee is seeking ways to redefine inter-Korean relations by incorporating the perspectives of the 2040 generation.

On July 3, the Foreign Affairs and Security Subcommittee of the National Policy Planning Committee announced that it had held the "2040 Generation Future of the Korean Peninsula Roundtable" at its office in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the previous day. The roundtable was organized to explore new directions for inter-Korean relations and to reflect the views and proposals of the 2040 generation in the new government's policy agenda, in light of the era's challenge of achieving "sustainable peace."

The event was attended by members of the Foreign Affairs and Security Subcommittee, emerging experts on inter-Korean and Korean Peninsula issues, civil society activists, university students, and other representatives of the 2040 generation.

According to the committee, participants emphasized the need to resume communication with North Korea and proposed measures such as "easing tensions on the Korean Peninsula" and "expanding social dialogue on consistent North Korea policy and peaceful unification."

Hong Hyun-ik, head of the Foreign Affairs and Security Subcommittee, stated, "The future of the Korean Peninsula must ultimately be shaped through the participation and empathy of the next generation," adding, "During the review of the new government's policy agenda, we will listen closely to the voices of the public and those on the ground, including the younger generation."
