Presenting Rural Solutions through AI and Software
A Catalyst for Attracting Young Talent
Uiseong County in Gyeongbuk successfully concluded a nationwide hackathon aimed at attracting young talent and solving local issues.
On July 2, Uiseong County announced that the "Youth Developer Competition," held at Uiseong Gymnasium over three days from June 27 to 29, had ended successfully.
This competition was designed for young developers across the country, with the goal of overcoming the crisis of local extinction and expanding the population of young residents.
A total of 352 young people applied to participate, drawing significant attention. Through preliminary training and qualifying rounds, 100 finalists advanced to the main event. These finalists focused intensively for three days and two nights, developing solutions on a range of local issues faced by Uiseong County, including agriculture, welfare, and tourism.
The grand prize was awarded to the team "Alio Olio," which proposed an AI-based consulting service for aspiring return-to-farmers. They presented a service platform that provides customized agricultural information based on data, earning high praise from the panel of judges.
The excellence awards went to a farm machinery rental application equipped with AI consultation features and a system that automatically generates SNS marketing content related to agriculture.
In addition, there were many other creative development cases reflecting the unique characteristics and needs of rural communities, such as a local travel recommendation AI platform and a voice-based cognitive training chatbot for dementia prevention.
To ensure that participants in this competition remain connected to the region, Uiseong County plans to hold the "Youth Developer Conference" and the "Youth Developer Academy" in succession this August.
Kim Jusu, Governor of Uiseong County, emphasized, "This hackathon is a meaningful example that demonstrates how the creativity and capabilities of young people can provide direct solutions to local problems, going beyond simple software development. We will do our utmost to create a youth-friendly environment so that young people can grow and settle in the region."
Uiseong County also plans to continue promoting innovative programs that use digital technology as a medium to both attract young talent and strengthen regional competitiveness.
