Chosun University Becomes Only University in Gwangju and Jeonnam to Obtain ISMS Certification for Academic Administration System

Chosun University announced on July 2 that it has recently obtained Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification from the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) for the operation of its academic administration system, making it the only university in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions to do so. The certification is valid for three years, until June 17, 2028.

The ISMS certification is a nationally recognized system that evaluates whether administrative, technical, and physical measures to protect information assets are systematically established and operated. It comprehensively verifies the security capabilities of a university's information systems.

Chosun University satisfied all 80 evaluation criteria, including 16 items for management system establishment and operation, and 64 items for protection measure requirements, thereby obtaining ISMS certification. As a result, it is the only university in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions to receive certification for the operation of its academic administration system (student records, academic affairs, and course registration). The university's core academic administration system has been recognized as meeting the national information security standards.

Chosun University has been designated as an institution required to obtain ISMS certification and has undergone annual information security level assessments by the Ministry of Education. Since the second half of last year, ahead of the launch of its next-generation information system, the university has systematically prepared by conducting system vulnerability assessments, risk evaluations, security policy updates, and internal simulation drills.

Munsu Kang, Director of the Information Computing Center, stated, "This ISMS certification is objective recognition that Chosun University is systematically building its information security capabilities." He added, "Information security is not a one-time procedure but an area that requires ongoing management and continuous investment. We will continue to strive for stable and reliable system operations."
