The National Busan Science Museum (Director Song Samjong) announced that it held a seminar on July 2 in the museum's medium conference room to commemorate its 10th anniversary. During the event, participants reflected on the museum's achievements in spreading scientific culture over the past decade and discussed future directions.
The seminar, held under the theme "A New Decade: Building the Foundation for Sustainable Growth," was attended by around 60 participants, including science museum officials and experts from industry, academia, research, and government sectors. The event began with opening remarks by Song Samjong, Director of the National Busan Science Museum, followed by a keynote speech by Professor Kim Gapjin of KAIST. The seminar was divided into two sessions: "A Decade of the Science Museum's Journey" and "Preparing for the Next Decade."
In the "A Decade of the Science Museum's Journey" session, presentations were given by Kang Chunjin, Director of the Busan Science and Technology Council, who introduced the process of establishing the museum; Choi Junyoung, Head of the Education and Research Department at the National Busan Science Museum, who summarized the achievements of the past ten years; Lim Byungcheon, Chairman of Kwangsung Instrumentation and a board member of the museum's supporters' association, who shared cases of science outreach activities; and Kim Sunghee, Vice Principal of Geumsa Middle School, along with parent Kim Buyoung, who discussed the museum's impact on the local community.
The following session, "Preparing for the Next Decade," featured presentations by Heo Namyoung, Director of the National Busan Science Museum, who explained the museum's role as a core institution in the Southeastern Triple Helix; Park Jangwoo, Director of the Uiryeong Insect Ecology Learning Center, and Cho Jeongyun, Director of the Busan Cultural Foundation, who proposed strategies for mutual growth with the museum; and Yoo Manseon, Director of the Seoul Science Center, who suggested directions for the museum's future development.
The seminar also presented concrete action plans to strengthen the museum's central role in collaboration among industry, academia, research, and government. Key initiatives included organizing traveling exhibitions, developing an integrated regional science culture brand, and expanding convergent content.
In conjunction with the seminar, a popup exhibition titled "SCIPORT: A Decade of Voyage" was also held, offering visitors an opportunity to reflect on the museum's ten-year journey and reconsider the significance of scientific culture.
Director Song Samjong said, "Marking our 10th anniversary, this was a meaningful opportunity to look back on the past and design the next decade together. We will do our utmost to establish a foundation for sustainable growth and to become a central institution for scientific culture together with our visitors."
