The Opportunity Income for Farmers and Fishers is a project implemented in collaboration with Gyeonggi Province to ensure the sustainability of agriculture, fisheries, and rural areas, and to compensate farmers and fishers for creating social value.

Eligible recipients are those who have continuously resided in Yangju City for at least one year, or have resided in Gyeonggi Province for at least two non-consecutive years, and are registered as business operators who have engaged in actual farming or fishing for at least one continuous year on farmland within the city, or for at least two consecutive years on farmland within the province. However, their non-agricultural income must be less than 37 million won.

Opportunity Income is provided in the form of Yangju City local currency, with 50,000 won per month for general farmers and fishers, and 150,000 won per month for young farmers and fishers. The funds must be used within 180 days of issuance at local small business stores and similar establishments within the region.

Yangju City accepted applications from March 10 to April 11, conducted application reviews and eligibility verification, and finalized the list of recipients through the Opportunity Income Committee's deliberation at the end of June. A total budget of 1.926 billion won was allocated, and each eligible recipient received a lump-sum payment covering six months for the first half of the year.

Mayor Kang Suhyeon stated, "The Opportunity Income for Farmers and Fishers is a mutually beneficial project that not only provides practical support to farmers but also has a positive impact on small businesses and the local economy by distributing the funds as local currency. We expect it will inject new vitality into rural communities and the regional economy."

Applications for the second half Opportunity Income will begin in September. Farmers and fishers who have not yet applied can visit the relevant township or neighborhood administrative welfare center after checking the Yangju City website to apply for the full year's benefits.
