Local Road No. 39 'Yangju Ganap to Sangsu' Section to Open on July 5

The 'Yangju Ganap to Sangsu' section of Local Road No. 39 in Gyeonggi Province will open on July 5.

On July 2, Gyeonggi Province announced that it would hold an opening ceremony at Gyeongsin Intersection in Gyeongsin-ri, Nam-myeon, Yangju City, and that the entire 'Local Road No. 39 Yangju Ganap to Sangsu Road' would be open to traffic starting July 5.

Local Road No. 39 serves as a key arterial road connecting the western part of Yangju City from north to south. Gyeonggi Province has been promoting three separate road projects along this route to alleviate traffic congestion, improve convenience for local residents, and ensure safety.

Among these, the 'Local Road No. 39 Ganap to Sangsu Road Construction Project' involved expanding and paving a total length of 5.7 kilometers of four-lane road connecting Ganap-ri in Gwangjeok-myeon and Sangsu-ri in Nam-myeon, Yangju City, as well as constructing four bridges. The project cost 128.2 billion won and began construction in October 2016.

The main purposes of opening this section are to restore connectivity with northern areas such as Paju and Dongducheon and to improve travel convenience. After opening, it is expected to significantly contribute to resolving traffic accident risks by expanding the road and adding sidewalks; improving access to the Seo-Yangju IC on the Second Capital Region Ring Expressway and to Deokjeong Station on the GTX-C line; and reducing logistics costs for local industrial complexes such as Geomjun, Eunnam, and Hongjuk.

Gyeonggi Province also plans to swiftly complete the Jangheung to Gwangjeok section (under construction, 6.3 kilometers) and the Bugok to Bugok section (in design, 2.5 kilometers), which are long-awaited local projects, in order to quickly establish the function of a central arterial road directly and indirectly connecting to the First and Second Capital Region Ring Expressways.

Kim Daesoon, Second Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The opening of the Yangju Ganap to Sangsu section of Local Road No. 39, in connection with the Second Capital Region Ring Expressway, will not only help alleviate local traffic congestion but also play a key role in revitalizing nearby industrial complexes and businesses. We will continue working to improve accessibility to Seoul and the quality of life for local residents by expanding infrastructure in northern Gyeonggi."
