Hanam Mayor Lee Hyunjae stated at a press conference marking the third anniversary of the 8th popular election term on July 2, 2025, "By actively attracting outstanding companies alongside the development of K-Star World, Camp Colbern, and the Gyo-san New Town self-sufficiency site, we aim to more than double the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) per capita within the next five years and transform Hanam into a self-sufficient city rich in jobs."

Mayor Lee explained, "Because Hanam has a weak foundation for businesses and jobs, we will leverage our locational advantages as a growth engine, create high added value through industries such as K-Culture, and attract companies to simultaneously grow jobs and the local economy."

The press conference was held to share both the major achievements of the past three years and the direction of municipal administration for the coming year.

Mayor Lee Hyunjae noted that over the past three years, innovation in public office culture and citizen-centered communication administration have led to tangible results.

Hanam City fostered a productive work environment and greatly enhanced organizational capabilities by awarding the highest-ever performance bonuses of 10 million won, granting special promotions to nine employees, and conducting 314 domestic and international benchmarking activities. In addition, the city expanded communication with residents by operating the 'Open Mayor's Office' and the 'Mobile Mayor's Office,' directly listening to 578 civil complaints, and establishing video conferencing systems in 14 districts.

As a result of these efforts, Hanam became the first city in the nation to win the Presidential Award for two consecutive years in the 'Comprehensive Civil Service Evaluation' jointly hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.

The foundation for becoming a city of culture and leisure has also been firmly established. Moving away from its reputation as a 'culturally marginalized area,' more than 460,000 people attended cultural performances over the past three years. This year, 'Music In The Hanam' attracted about 26,000 spectators and achieved a satisfaction rate of 98.8%. The barefoot walking trails, including the Misa Hangang Sand Trail, will be expanded from the current 10 locations to 25 within this month.

In the field of welfare, customized support for all generations has been steadily expanded. The senior job program increased from 2,259 participants last year to 2,423 this year, and seniors aged 70 or older are provided with up to 160,000 won in annual transportation subsidies. Over the past three years, about 6,500 young people have participated in job competency enhancement programs. Support for families with newborns has also been strengthened, with childbirth incentives of up to 20 million won and paternity leave allowances of up to 1.8 million won.

Hanam's achievements as an education city are also clear. The number of students entering major universities in Seoul and medical and pharmaceutical fields increased by 75% in two years, from 164 in 2023 to 287 in 2025. Practical support such as large company field trips (1,160 participants), campus tours (7,693 participants), and high school academic improvement projects (five schools) have produced results. There are also ongoing discussions for the establishment of the tentatively named Misa 5th Middle School (2026) and Misa 4th High School (2027), as well as the Hanam Office of Education.

Efforts to attract companies in pursuit of becoming a self-sufficient city have continued. As a result of establishing an investment promotion team, a business support center, and revising related ordinances, the city has attracted 12 companies, including the tentatively named Yonsei Hanam Hospital, Seohui Construction, and Roger Nine Co., Ltd. This is expected to bring in an estimated investment of about 817.9 billion won and create about 2,000 jobs.

Currently, Hanam's per capita GRDP is about 29 million won, ranking 24th among the 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province. The city aims to more than double the GRDP within the next five years through company attraction and industrial base expansion, with the goal of ranking within the top 10 in Gyeonggi Province.

In particular, K-Star World is set to begin in earnest this year through a public offering for private operators and is drawing attention as a core growth axis expected to generate 2.5 trillion won in economic effects and create 30,000 direct jobs. Camp Colbern is currently accepting applications for the second round of private sector participation, and the Gyo-san self-sufficiency site is being developed to attract advanced industries such as AI.

There have also been tangible achievements in transportation. For Line 3, the location of the tentatively named Shindeokpung Station was moved 340 meters north from the original plan to improve access to the old downtown and connect with the Dream Rest Area. For Line 5, the interval between trains during rush hour was reduced from 11 minutes to 7 minutes. For Line 9, the basic plan including the installation of the tentatively named Shinmisa Station turnaround line was approved, laying the groundwork for both express and regular trains to operate in the future. Regarding the Wirye-Sinsa Line, Seoul City's response regarding the Hanam extension was completed in March this year, and the project is gaining momentum with plans for a prompt preliminary feasibility study and its conversion to a Seoul City-funded project.

Additionally, the Suseok Bridge is expected to effectively disperse traffic that was previously concentrated at the Seondong IC by changing the Misagangbyeon City non-direct connection structure. Transportation accessibility has also been further enhanced through the implementation of a semi-public village bus system (18 routes, 90 buses in total), expansion of routes (10 routes, 54 buses in total), and operation of the Ttok Bus (five in Gam-il, four in Wirye).

In terms of balanced regional development, living infrastructure in each area is being steadily expanded, such as the opening of the Comprehensive Welfare Town and Deokpung Sports Culture Center in the old downtown, construction of the Gam-il Public Complex Office, and promotion of the Wirye Complex Sports Facility.

Furthermore, regarding the expansion of the Dong Seoul Substation, Mayor Lee stated that the city will continue active communication to alleviate citizens' concerns and widely gather residents' opinions.

Mayor Lee Hyunjae said, "Thanks to the trust and support of citizens over the past three years, Hanam has achieved tangible results in various fields, including administrative innovation and strengthening the city's foundation. As we approach the final year of the 8th popular election term, I will focus all our capabilities on municipal administration to ensure that the policies we have pursued so far lead to real changes in citizens' lives."
