$1.4 Refund for $20 Subscription
"Compensation Emails Are Being Sent Sequentially"
OpenAI is providing compensation for a disruption in its conversational AI service, ChatGPT, that lasted for approximately 16 hours. The company plans to refund about 6.4% of the monthly subscription fee to paid subscribers in Korea.
According to OpenAI on July 1, the company sent receipts via email to ChatGPT Plus paid subscribers, stating that $1.29 (or $1.41 including tax) would be refunded from the $20 monthly subscription fee. Users who pay a $66 monthly subscription fee received receipts indicating a refund of $3.88 (or $4.26 including tax).
This amounts to about 6.4% of the ChatGPT subscription fee. The refund will be processed by deducting the corresponding amount from last month's payment and returning it through the original payment method. Customers who were using the paid subscription service at the time of the service disruption are eligible for the refund. An OpenAI representative stated, "Compensation-related emails are being sent out sequentially," and added, "As far as I know, this is currently being carried out only for subscribers in Korea."
Previously, ChatGPT experienced an access disruption lasting about 16 hours last month. OpenAI officially apologized for the ChatGPT service outage and announced that additional information regarding compensation would be provided by early July.
