On July 2, Jeonnam Governor Kim Youngrok emphasized, "As the government is moving quickly to implement its policies, we must also accelerate the promotion of key future development initiatives, such as the 500,000 population innovation growth belt in the Southwest region and the establishment of the Gwangyang-Suncheon National Industrial Complex for future advanced materials."
Governor Kim held a regular meeting at the Wangin Room of the provincial office that morning and stated, "With only one year left in the 8th local government term, it is a crucial time to determine how we will turn our promises into tangible achievements. I am determined to work with a sense of urgency and be present in the field."
He continued, "I would like to thank the public officials who worked hard to achieve Jeonnam's high voter turnout rate of 83.6% during the presidential election on June 3." He added, "Just 22 days after his inauguration, the President visited Gwangju and Jeonnam and demonstrated great interest in the Honam region by forming a six-party task force under the direct supervision of the presidential office to address the relocation of the Gwangju military airport and by providing solutions to the issue. Since then, we have been exchanging opinions with the presidential office and central ministries regarding the future development of Jeonnam."
In fact, on July 1, Governor Kim visited the presidential office and the National Policy Planning Committee in succession to propose major key projects for the future development of Jeonnam.
The main proposals include: ▲ the 500,000 population innovation growth belt in the Southwest region ▲ the establishment of the Gwangyang-Suncheon National Industrial Complex for future advanced materials ▲ the construction of an artificial sun research facility in Naju ▲ the creation of the second space center in Goheung ▲ crisis response for the Yeosu petrochemical industrial complex ▲ the establishment of a Southwest region AI super cluster hub ▲ the creation of a future advanced Aero City near Muan Airport ▲ an energy self-sufficient future city ▲ the creation of an AI-based advanced agri-livestock convergence district ▲ and the establishment of K-Disney Suncheon.
Governor Kim stated, "Currently, we are in the stage of exchanging opinions to ensure that Jeonnam's key future development projects are adopted as national policy tasks by the new government. I believe the President will make a major announcement in the future. The President is someone who delivers on his commitments and pushes projects forward with speed. If these projects are successful, Jeonnam's population, currently at 1.8 million, could recover to 2 million."
Regarding the government's supplementary budget, he stressed the importance of securing additional funding for the industrial crisis preemptive response area at the Yeosu petrochemical industrial complex, as well as for SOC projects that have a significant impact on the regional economy, as the most critical aspects of people's livelihoods.
