Ahn Cheolsu Nominated as Innovation Committee Chair: "People Power Party in Coma... I Will Excise the Pus and Boils"

Ahn Cheolsu, a member of the People Power Party who has been nominated as the chairperson of the party's Innovation Committee, stated, "We will thoroughly reflect on past mistakes and evaluate them with a cool head."

On July 2, through his Facebook page, Ahn said, "The People Power Party is currently in a coma, just before being pronounced dead," and diagnosed, "Given that the purpose of a political party is to gain power, this presidential election defeat is the greatest crisis the party has ever faced."

He continued, "However, even though a month has passed since the presidential defeat, the party remains paralyzed," and pointed out, "It is like a terminal patient whose malignant tumor has already metastasized to the bones and bone marrow and needs surgery, yet still believes in natural healing. The existence of a healthy opposition party is most essential in a liberal democracy, but because we are not fulfilling our role, we are being abandoned by the people."

He emphasized, "I will take up the scalpel," and "I will excise the pus and boils that have contaminated conservative politics." He added, "I will create a prescription for a party that breathes with the people once again, a normal party," and stressed, "This is the last opportunity."

Ahn said, "There may be a barrage of suspicion, skepticism, resistance, and criticism going forward, but I am prepared," and added, "I am sufficiently trained. I will confront the challenges head-on so that the party can be reborn as a healthy party, in line with the perspective of ordinary citizens."
