Gyeonggi Province residents have given high marks to Governor Kim Dongyeon's administration over the past three years.
To mark the third anniversary of the 8th elected administration, Gyeonggi Province commissioned a public opinion survey from Next Research, which conducted telephone interviews with 2,000 Gyeonggi residents aged 18 and older from June 18 to June 23. According to the results, 58% of respondents positively evaluated the provincial administration over the past three years, stating that "the administration has performed well." Additionally, 70% of respondents said they "trust" the provincial government, and 73% expressed positive expectations that tangible results could be achieved through cooperation between the Lee Jaemyung administration and Gyeonggi Province.
Among those who said the administration had performed well, the reasons cited included: the implementation of many policies that actually benefit residents' lives (18%), satisfaction with the direction of administration and policy initiatives (14%), clean and transparent governance (14%), and balanced administration without favoring specific regions or groups (14%).
When asked to select the most representative achievement among nine key policies that the province has focused on, the largest number of residents chose "transportation policies such as the More Gyeonggi Pass initiative" (24%). This was followed by: welfare initiatives such as the 360-degree care program (11%), support for small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners as part of the livelihood economy (10%), regional balanced development such as the Gyeonggi Northern Great Development initiative (10%), youth policies such as the Gyeonggi Youth Ladder (9%), future growth initiatives such as attracting 100 trillion won in investment (8%), social value investments such as Opportunity Income and the 4.5-day workweek (6%), housing policies such as measures to prevent and support victims of jeonse fraud (4%), and responses to the climate crisis such as expanding renewable energy (4%).
Public Opinion Survey Results for the 3rd Anniversary of Gyeonggi Province's 8th Elected Administration
Across most age groups, "transportation policies such as the More Gyeonggi Pass initiative" was selected as the most representative achievement. However, among those aged 70 and older, "welfare initiatives such as the 360-degree care program and the Caregiver SOS Project" (18%) received higher marks. Transportation policies such as the More Gyeonggi Pass were also cited as the top achievement in all regions. In the northern inland region, responses for "regional balanced development such as the Gyeonggi Northern Great Development initiative" (18%) were nearly as high as those for transportation policies (19%).
In addition to asking which of the nine key policies was the most representative achievement, the survey also measured positive and negative evaluations for each policy area. The positive evaluation rates were similarly high: transportation (75%), welfare (64%), and the livelihood economy (59%) ranked highest.
At a recent executive meeting, Governor Kim Dongyeon said, "My term starts anew every day, and there is more to accomplish in the coming year than in the past three years," adding, "Let us not talk about 'winding down the administration.' Even with just two weeks left, we can still change the world."
Following Governor Kim's instructions, the provincial government plans to expand successful outcomes and address shortcomings based on residents' perceptions of each policy area to further increase satisfaction among residents.
Meanwhile, this public opinion survey was conducted via telephone interviews (landline and mobile RDD), not by ARS (automated response system), with a sample error of ±2.2 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
