After Leaving SK Innovation E&S for McKinsey
Possible Return to Group Executive Role in the Future
Choi Ingeun (30), the eldest son of SK Group Chairman Chey Taewon, has recently resigned from SK Innovation E&S and reportedly moved to a global consulting group. As many second- and third-generation members of major domestic conglomerates have returned to key executive positions after working at global consulting firms, there is speculation that Choi may also be beginning his formal management training.

According to the business community on July 2, Choi is expected to join the Seoul office of McKinsey & Company on July 3. Born in 1995, Choi majored in physics at Brown University in the United States and began his career in 2020 as a new employee in the strategic planning team at SK Innovation E&S.
Before his career move, he worked in Passkey, the North American business division, participating in the energy solutions business.
Within chaebol families, global consulting firms are considered a pathway to gain condensed experience in overall management. Due to the nature of consulting firms, which cover various industries, micro- and macroeconomics, as well as technology and marketing, it is possible to quickly develop an understanding of management strategy, organizational operations, and global markets. The opportunity to network with key figures in the business community also broadens significantly.
Choi's eldest sister, Choi Yoonjung, head of business development (executive vice president) at SK Biopharm, worked as a consultant at Bain & Company for two years in 2015 before joining SK Biopharm as a team leader in 2017, thus participating in SK's management.
Other figures who have passed through global consulting firms include Chung Kisun, executive vice chairman of HD Hyundai; Hong Jungguk, vice chairman of BGF; and Seo Minjung, executive at Amorepacific.
