Reported Assets Include Spouse's Solar Power Plants and More
Jeong Dongyoung, the nominee for Minister of Unification, reported a total of 2,197,870,000 KRW in assets under his and his spouse's names, including an apartment in Dogok-dong, Gangnam-gu.
According to the personnel hearing request submitted to the National Assembly on July 1, Jeong reported an apartment in Dogok-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, under his name (1,700,000,000 KRW), deposits including 148,560,000 KRW in political funds (296,450,000 KRW), and private bonds (508,200,000 KRW).
His liabilities include a lease debt on the Dogok-dong apartment (900,000,000 KRW) and financial liabilities (624,890,000 KRW).
His spouse's declared assets include renewable solar power plants in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon; Jeongeup-si, Jeonbuk; Buyeo-gun, Chungnam; and Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk (totaling 943,660,000 KRW), as well as land in those regions (totaling 308,100,000 KRW).
She also reported deposits of 306,280,000 KRW and financial liabilities of 1,179,460,000 KRW.
Jeong's eldest and second sons refused disclosure, citing independent living as the reason.
In 2014, Jeong was fined 500,000 KRW for obstructing general traffic by illegally occupying a road during a protest against the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Jeong enlisted in the Army in 1974 and was discharged as a sergeant in 1977. His eldest son served as a sergeant in the Army, and his second son served as a sergeant in the Marine Corps.
