The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on June 30, "We are cooperating with investigative agencies in five countries, including the United States," and added, "We have requested materials from 18 overseas companies and are tracking more than 100 IP addresses that show signs of being connected to the servers."

Previously, on April 23, the police received the first report of hacking damage from SKT and launched an investigation. The police are tracking the hacker who installed the malware, and are also investigating the scale and route of the personal information leak.

An investigation into SKT officials is also underway. The police have received six complaints so far regarding allegations such as breach of duty related to SKT. The Namdaemun Police Station in Seoul, which has completed questioning the complainants, plans to investigate the suspects sequentially in the future.

In May, the Citizens' Committee for the Protection of People's Livelihood and other civic groups filed complaints against SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and SKT CEO Yoo Youngsang, among others, for alleged violations of the Personal Information Protection Act and the Information and Communications Network Act. The complaints cited reasons such as SKT's delayed response despite being aware of the hacking incident.

In addition, at a briefing held on May 19, the Ministry of Science and ICT's joint public-private investigation team identified June 2022 as the time when malware was first installed on SK Telecom's servers. The team also stated that the scale of leaked information amounted to 27 million records and that there were 25 types of malware involved.
