"Negotiation Over Summons Schedule Does Not Mean Agreement"
The special prosecutor team led by Cho Eunseok, which is investigating the insurrection and treason cases related to the 12·3 Martial Law, has notified former President Yoon Sukyeol to appear on July 1.
On June 29, Park Jiyoung, assistant special prosecutor for the insurrection case, stated during a briefing, "We received the opinion of former President Yoon's side regarding the summons schedule, and this afternoon, after considering all relevant circumstances, we notified him to appear at 9 a.m. on July 1."
Assistant Special Prosecutor Park added, "Negotiation over the summons schedule does not mean agreement. The decision is made by the investigative authority, and after receiving the opinion of former President Yoon's side, we determined and notified the appearance date based on the special prosecutor’s investigation schedule and various necessities."
The special prosecutor for the insurrection case had summoned former President Yoon as a suspect the previous day and issued a notice requesting him to appear again at 9 a.m. on June 30.
However, former President Yoon's side requested that the appearance date be rescheduled to after July 3, citing the need for sufficient consultation with the suspect and legal counsel regarding the summons, as well as considerations for his health issues and the protection of his right to defense in ongoing trials.
