"Ruined the Presidential Election with a Fraudulent Primary... Brought Destruction Upon Ourselves"
Hong Junpyo's Strong Remarks on Former President Yoon's Special Prosecutor Investigation
Hong Junpyo, former mayor of Daegu, commented on former President Yoon Sukyeol being investigated by a special prosecutor on charges of insurrection, stating, "Since liberation, there have been as many as five presidents who have been investigated or punished after leaving office," and added, "It is truly shameful and embarrassing."
On June 28, through his Facebook page, Hong pointed out, "All five of them were figures representing the conservative camp in Korea," and questioned, "In this situation, can the conservatives regain the public's trust without bold and drastic innovation?" He appeared to be referring to former Presidents Yoon Sukyeol, Chun Doohwan, Roh Taewoo, Lee Myungbak, and Park Geunhye.
He criticized former President Yoon, saying, "He is facing various corruption charges during his term," and added, "He is a former prosecutor general who, at the instigation of the Moon Jaein administration, imprisoned former Presidents Lee Myungbak and Park Geunhye." He continued, "Two months ago, during the presidential primary, I warned that if we lost the election, not only former President Yoon and his wife but the entire conservative camp could be destroyed. I resent those who ruined the election with a fraudulent primary."
