An employee cleaning a septic tank at a food processing company in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, and the company’s CEO, who attempted a rescue, both collapsed and died in succession.

At around 1:26 p.m. on the 27th, Yeosu Fire Station received a report that "two people collapsed while cleaning a septic tank" at a food processing company in Manheung-dong, Yeosu-si. Employee B (age 58), who was working at the site, collapsed after complaining of dizziness. Upon witnessing this, CEO A (age 65) entered the septic tank and also suffered the same fate.


Both individuals were rescued by the fire department and transported to the hospital. However, A was in cardiac arrest and B was in a state of brain death upon arrival, and both were pronounced dead. Police stated that neither of them was wearing any protective equipment such as gas masks or masks at the time.


The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident and whether any hazardous substances were present inside the tank, interviewing witnesses including employees from an external company who were also cleaning the septic tank at the time.
