Sejong City Opens 'Hectaon Sejong Cybersecurity Conference'

The '2025 Hectaon Sejong Cybersecurity Conference' will be held at the Government Sejong Convention Center for two days starting July 10.

According to the city of Sejong on June 27, Hectaon Sejong was launched in 2022 to discover and nurture cybersecurity talent and foster the information security industry. This year marks its fourth edition. The name 'Hectaon Sejong' is a combination of 'Hacker,' 'Pantheon,' and 'Sejong,' signifying that cybersecurity talent gathers in Sejong.

This event is hosted by the city and organized by Korea University (Sejong), Hongik University (Sejong), Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information, and the Korea University Sejong SW-Centered University Project Group. It is supported by 21 organizations, including the National Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the Personal Information Protection Commission.

In the rapidly advancing era of artificial intelligence, the conference will provide an opportunity to explore foundational technologies and future directions for building a trustworthy cybersecurity environment. Various programs, including those aimed at nurturing next-generation core cybersecurity talent, will also be featured.

Specifically, the event will include: ▲ Cybersecurity Conference ▲ International University Student Cybersecurity Competition ▲ Information Security and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Company (Technology) Exhibition ▲ Korea Institute of Information Security and Cryptology's Space and Quantum Security Research Group, among others.

Notably, on the first day, July 10, the finals of the International University Student Cybersecurity Competition will take place. This competition, held in April, saw 1,606 participants from 180 universities across 32 countries. Forty teams (20 in the beginner division and 20 in the advanced division) that passed the preliminary online round will gather at the Government Sejong Convention Center for intense competition. The total prize pool is 38 million won.

On the same afternoon, the National Intelligence Service will introduce key national cybersecurity policies, such as the National Network Security Framework (N2SF) and the Software Bill of Materials (SBoM). Those wishing to attend the cybersecurity conference, company exhibition, or competition can register in advance on the Hectaon Sejong website until July 8. Participation is free of charge.

Lee Yongil, Director of Planning and Coordination, stated, "This year's Hectaon Sejong is a meaningful event where we will design the core values for building a safe society from cyber threats in the digital environment of the AI era and seek future response strategies. We hope for active interest and participation in this grand cybersecurity event held in Sejong, the administrative capital, with collaboration between industry, academia, research, and government."
