On June 26, the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly held a plenary session and approved a supplementary budget bill for the Ministry of National Defense and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, increasing the government’s proposal by 99,178 million KRW.

The supplementary budget for the Ministry of National Defense was increased by 101,087 million KRW and reduced by 2,762 million KRW compared to the government’s proposal, resulting in a net increase of 98,325 million KRW.
Looking at the main items of the increase, 48,997 million KRW was additionally allocated to the “basic meal service project,” which includes subsidies for outsourced meal services.
The “unit operation support project,” which covers increased costs for duty allowances, was expanded by 39,336 million KRW.
In terms of reductions, the budgets for the “telecommunications fee project” and the “information security project” were cut by a total of 2,312 million KRW. This adjustment was made after criticism that the number of security phones provided to Defense Counterintelligence Command personnel was excessive.
As for the budget under the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, an additional 853 million KRW was allocated to the “defense science research institute infrastructure enhancement project.”
