[Profile] Vice Minister of Environment Geum Hanseung...Expert in Climate Change and Circular Economy

On June 26, President Lee Jaemyung appointed Geum Hanseung, Director of the National Institute of Environmental Research, as the new Vice Minister of Environment.

Born in 1969, Vice Minister Geum graduated from Kyunggi High School and holds a bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Korea University and a master's degree in Resource Economics from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

He passed the 38th Higher Civil Service Examination and, during his tenure at the Ministry of Environment, served as Director of Environmental Economic Policy, Director of Air Environment Policy, and Director of Climate Change Policy. He subsequently held positions as Director of the Climate and Carbon Policy Office at the Ministry of Environment, Deputy Secretary-General of the Carbon Neutrality Committee Secretariat, and Director of the National Institute of Environmental Research.

He is regarded as an expert in climate change policy and the circular economy. For 30 years, he has continuously conducted policy research on the coexistence of the environment and the economy. In an interview with the media, he stated, "Like the front and rear wheels of a cart, the environment and the economy must move in the same direction and at the same speed."
