This visit was arranged in connection with the special exhibition "Latvian Warriors Who Participated in the Korean War," which has been taking place at the Liberty and Peace Museum in Dongducheon since March. The exhibition highlights the historical fact of Latvia's participation in the Korean War and introduces the service records and dedication of Latvian soldiers.
After viewing the exhibition, Ambassador Janis Berzins had a tea meeting with Dongducheon Mayor Hyungdeok Park. He expressed his deep gratitude to Dongducheon City for providing an opportunity to introduce the historical links between Latvia and Korea, emphasizing the historical bond between the two countries.
To commemorate the ambassador's official visit, Dongducheon City presented a meaningful souvenir symbolizing the region's history and culture, carefully packaged at a workshop in Bosan-dong. The city included in the gift its appreciation for Latvia's contribution to safeguarding Korea's freedom and peace as a participant in the Korean War, as well as its hope for enhanced friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Mayor Hyungdeok Park stated, "It was a meaningful occasion to reflect on Latvia's participation in the Korean War at this museum, which commemorates freedom and peace," and added, "I hope this ambassadorial visit will serve as a catalyst for promoting cultural exchange between our two countries."
