This study aims to establish a development plan and a mid- to long-term roadmap for the introduction of a Gyeonggi-style UAM and the construction of industrial infrastructure. The main tasks include: ▲ analyzing trends in the UAM industry, technology, and policy; ▲ formulating response strategies in preparation for the designation of pilot operation zones by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; and ▲ deriving feasible industry models. The consortium conducting this study is led by Hanseo University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, with participation from Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, Verti Co., Ltd., and AirLabs Co., Ltd.

Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation has continuously worked to lay the groundwork for discovering urban air mobility business models. The corporation strengthened its preparatory system through joint seminars with the Gyeonggi Research Institute via the G+ Policy Platform and by establishing a cooperative framework among the province, cities and counties, and the corporation.

The corporation has also made ongoing efforts to build its capabilities in the future air mobility sector, a new transportation mode, by participating in the UAM Team Korea Working Group (WG) led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and carrying out the "2024 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project." Notably, the ordinance "Support for the Development of the Gyeonggi Province Urban Air Mobility Industry and Establishment of a Transportation Management System" designates Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation as the entrusted institution, thus establishing an institutional foundation for future projects.

Min Kyungseon, President of Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, stated, "Winning this basic planning project for the Gyeonggi-style urban air mobility industry is highly significant as it marks the official starting point for building a Gyeonggi-style urban air mobility service model. By linking ground transportation modes such as 'Ddokta' and 'Ddokbus' with air mobility, we can dramatically enhance the convenience of movement for residents."

He added, "We will work closely with Gyeonggi Province, the provincial council, and all 31 cities and counties to successfully establish a Gyeonggi-style urban air mobility business model and ensure that Gyeonggi Province leads the urban air mobility industry and services."

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is accelerating efforts to establish the foundation for UAM commercialization. The ministry is completing the "Grand Challenge Phase 1 (non-urban/Goheung)" demonstration with the goal of launching commercial services in the Seoul metropolitan area by the end of 2025, and plans to begin "Phase 2 (urban areas/Incheon, Goyang, Seoul, etc.)" in the second half of this year. Through these efforts, key elements for commercialization?including operational safety, traffic management systems, and vertiport operations?will be verified in actual urban environments.
