"Develop Muan Airport as a Hub and Transform the Former Site into a Base for Future Industries"
"Mutual Prosperity of Gwangju and Jeonnam Should Be Realized Through Social Dialogue"
Park released a statement the previous day, saying, "President Lee Jaemyung visited Gwangju, held a town hall meeting regarding the relocation of the military airport, and instructed the presidential office to form a six-party TF involving Gwangju City, Jeonnam Province, Muan County, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport."
He continued, "President Lee promised national support in accordance with the 'Special Act on Military Airport Relocation' and emphasized the restoration of trust among stakeholders as a key principle," adding, "The relocation of the Gwangju military airport has finally entered the proper track as a state-led initiative."
Park stated, "This is the best opportunity to design a future where Gwangju and Jeonnam can prosper together," and added, "Muan Airport should be developed as an international tourism and logistics hub, while the former site should become a base for future industries in the Honam region, such as carbon neutrality and artificial intelligence."
He further emphasized, "The best way to materialize this is through social dialogue," and said, "We must continue to create forums for social dialogue so that citizens of the city and province can actively participate as agents of mutual development." Park also added, "Gwangsan District will actively cooperate by utilizing its experience in participatory governance."
