On June 26, Guro District in Seoul announced that it has further strengthened its safety measures to prevent pedestrian traffic accidents by completing the additional installation of pedestrian signal auxiliary devices at crosswalks within the district.

Since 2020, the district has been implementing the "Pedestrian Signal Auxiliary Device Installation Project" in both the first and second half of each year. The project provides visual signals (ground-type pedestrian traffic lights) and auditory signals (voice guidance auxiliary devices) at crosswalks to ensure the safety of vulnerable road users and pedestrians with limited visibility.
From September last year to June this year, over a period of 10 months, the district selected target locations by considering factors such as pedestrian volume among vulnerable groups and accident risk, focusing on child protection zones and school routes. A total of KRW 460 million in city funding was invested to sequentially carry out design and supervision services as well as installation work.
In the first half of this year, new installations were completed at seven locations (Sindorim D-Cube City, Younghwa Apartment, Daemyung Electronics Samgeori, in front of Dongbu Steel, Sindorim SK View, Cheonwang Elementary School, and Oryu IC). A total of 28 ground-type pedestrian traffic lights (at 7 locations) and 20 voice guidance auxiliary devices (at 4 out of the 7 locations) were installed.
Additionally, from 2020 to 2024, over the past five years, Guro District has installed and operated 281 ground-type pedestrian traffic lights at 68 locations and 109 voice guidance auxiliary devices at 31 locations. The district plans to further expand the installation of pedestrian signal auxiliary devices in the second half of this year, following the efforts made in the first half.
Jang Inhong, Mayor of Guro District, stated, "We are expanding the facility infrastructure to create a smart transportation environment that prioritizes pedestrian safety," and added, "We will continue to actively promote practical transportation policies that residents can truly feel in their daily lives."
