GS Caltex Supplies Immersion Cooling Fluid to LG Uplus, Enters Data Center Market

Supplying Cooling Fluid to LG Uplus Hyperscale Center
Initiating AI Server Demonstration... Highlighting High Flash Point Advantage
Plans to Expand Beyond Data Centers to Batteries and ESS

GS Caltex has begun to expand its immersion cooling business for data centers in earnest by supplying immersion cooling fluid to the LG Uplus data center. The company's strategy is to prove stability and efficiency even in high-heat environments through eco-friendly cooling fluid optimized for artificial intelligence (AI) server cooling, and to make a full-scale entry into the market.

On June 26, GS Caltex announced that it had supplied its immersion cooling fluid, "Kixx Immersion Fluid S 30," to a demonstration room at the Pyeongchon 2 Center, which is operated by LG Uplus in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province. Immersion cooling is a technology that controls heat by directly submerging servers in non-conductive cooling fluid, which does not conduct electricity. Compared to traditional air cooling, it offers significant energy savings and is particularly suitable for high-heat AI and high-performance server environments, making it a next-generation cooling solution. In particular, energy efficiency is directly linked to competitiveness in large-scale power-consuming facilities such as LG Uplus's hyperscale data centers.

The immersion cooling fluid supplied by GS Caltex is a polyalphaolefin (PAO)-based product with a high flash point of over 250°C and excellent insulating properties. The company applied high-purity technology that was previously used in avionics equipment and pharmaceutical lubricants. GS Caltex explained that the product maximizes cooling performance while ensuring safety for both humans and the environment.

GS Caltex has also built its own immersion cooling system at its technology research center in Daejeon, where it is conducting internal demonstrations for AI servers. Recently, the company has also engaged in global collaboration by working with the US server manufacturer Supermicro Computer to verify technical performance and safety.

Since becoming the first company in Korea to launch immersion cooling fluid in 2023, GS Caltex has collaborated with Samsung SDS, SDT, Samhwa Ace, and Databean to enhance product compatibility and system completeness. Last year, the company expanded its product lineup to a total of four types and has been broadening its applications to high-heat industries such as electric vehicle batteries and energy storage systems (ESS).

A GS Caltex representative stated, "Through this supply and cooperation, we are now able to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of data centers by utilizing immersion cooling solutions," and added, "We will continue our efforts to develop immersion cooling technology and expand the market to improve energy efficiency in the data center industry."
