National Policy Planning Committee: "Comprehensive Support for AI Startups to Be Included in National Agenda"

National Policy Planning Committee: "Comprehensive Support for AI Startups to Be Included in National Agenda" Yonhap News

The National Policy Planning Committee, which serves as the transition team for the Lee Jaemyung administration, announced that it will include comprehensive support measures across various fields in its national agenda to help innovative technology startups grow into global companies. On June 25, members of the Economic Division 1 of the committee visited AI companies Rebellions and MaumAI in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

At a roundtable held on site, Park Sunghyun, CEO of Rebellions, stated, "The core of the global AI ecosystem value chain is AI semiconductors," and emphasized, "It is urgent to create an environment for large-scale capital investment and provide policy funding to support the development of domestically produced AI semiconductors that can compete in the global market." Rebellions is the only deep tech unicorn startup in South Korea, specializing in designing neural processing units (NPUs) for the AI inference market. The company has developed its own AI semiconductors and has been recognized for its technological capabilities through collaborations with Samsung and ARM.

Yoo Taejoon, CEO of MaumAI, said, "I am confident that physical AI, which combines AI semiconductors, AI lightweighting technology, and robot and machinery manufacturing, will become a major pillar of Korea's next-generation industrial growth," and stressed, "Policy support is needed for field-centric AI, or what we call physical AI." MaumAI is a physical AI company that has commercialized autonomous agricultural machinery and robotic patrol dogs. Physical AI refers to technology in which AI is integrated into robots to directly interact with the real world, and it has a broad impact across industries.

The National Policy Planning Committee plans to design national policy tasks aimed at making Korea one of the world's top three AI powers, based on the discussions held on site that day.
