First Lady Kim Hyekyung, wife of President Lee Jaemyung, met with the May Mothers. This meeting took place about a month after the presidential primary.


On the 25th, at the May Mothers House in Yangnim-dong, Namgu, Gwangju, Kim held a private meeting with the May Mothers, who are bereaved families of contributors to the May 18 Democratic Uprising. The meeting was attended by 11 members, including An Seongrae, the first director of the May Mothers House, and Kim Hyeongmi, the current director.


Kim stated that she visited the May Mothers House to fulfill her promise to meet again after the presidential election. After the meeting, she reportedly responded by saying that she would soon invite the mothers to Seoul.


The meeting lasted for about an hour. During the conversation, Kim was said to have listened attentively and taken notes on the difficulties expressed by the May 18 bereaved families and contributors.


On May 14, ahead of the 21st presidential election, Kim visited the May Mothers House and said, "After the December 3 Martial Law, I thought a lot about the mothers who experienced the May 18 Democratic Uprising. I wanted to visit and offer words of comfort to them."
