Damyang County (Governor Jeong Cheolwon) held the 75th anniversary commemorative event of the Korean War on the morning of the 25th at the Hyanggun Hall, honoring the noble sacrifices of the veterans and reaffirming its commitment to national defense and security. The event was attended by about 100 people, including Governor Jeong Cheolwon, the county council chairman, heads of veterans' organizations, Korean War veterans and their bereaved families, national merit recipients, and veterans' families.
In his commemorative address, Governor Jeong said, "Even after more than 70 years, I extend my deepest condolences to the veterans and their families who continue to carry the scars of war in their hearts," and added, "Damyang County will continue to remember and uphold the noble intentions of our patriotic forebears."
Kim Jiwon, head of the Damyang County branch of the Korean War Veterans Association, stated, "This year, by holding the event in conjunction with the Jeollanam-do Memorial Day ceremony, it was a meaningful opportunity to widely promote Damyang's spirit of patriotism to the residents of the province." He also requested, "As the number of Korean War veterans continues to decline, I ask for your continued special attention and respect for them."
Meanwhile, in recognition of June as the Month of Patriots and Veterans, Damyang County is expanding its support to improve the honor and welfare of veterans' families by listening to their voices through various activities, such as visiting veterans' organizations and merit recipients, and holding meetings with the heads of veterans' organizations.
