The Chungnam Provincial Council has officially launched research activities aimed at addressing the lack of economic and social services and the challenges of caring for vulnerable groups in rural areas by revitalizing rural communities.

The council announced that it had formed the 'Rural Community Revitalization Policy Research Group' and held both an inauguration ceremony and a kickoff meeting for the research project in the council's seminar room on the afternoon of June 24.

The establishment of this policy research group was initiated to find solutions to the serious problems of aging and depopulation in rural areas, which have resulted in insufficient services, by encouraging residents to participate directly through community-based approaches.

In particular, the policy research group plans to focus its activities on identifying ways to achieve social integration by leveraging the multifaceted value of agriculture.

The Rural Community Revitalization Policy Research Group is led by Park Miok, a proportional representative from the People Power Party. Kang Maya, a research fellow at the Chungnam Institute, serves as secretary, and the group consists of a total of 11 members, including Ko Gwangcheol (Gongju 1, People Power Party), Shin Sunok (proportional, People Power Party), and several private sector members.

At the kickoff meeting for the research project, Kim Gihung, president of the Asia Agricultural and Rural Research Institute, gave a keynote presentation on 'Strategies to Revitalize Economic and Social Services Based on Rural Communities in Chungnam.' The presentation was followed by a lively exchange of opinions among the participants.

Additionally, the research group members analyzed the results of the 2024 Chungnam Social Indicators Survey, discussed strategies for fostering Chungnam-style community care models in connection with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' ongoing policies to designate and support social farms, and emphasized the need to develop customized community models tailored to local characteristics.

Park Miok, head of the research group, stressed the importance of supporting rural residents in solving local issues on their own, stating, "It is crucial to help rural residents address local challenges independently. We must regenerate rural communities and achieve sustainable development based on self-help and self-reliance."
