Busan City and Suyeongro Church have launched support initiatives to help children under protection and young adults preparing for independence.
On June 25, Busan City held a donation ceremony for children under protection and young adults preparing for independence, together with Suyeongro Church (Senior Pastor Lee Kyuhyun), in the conference room on the 7th floor of Busan City Hall. The ceremony was organized to support the cost of assessments for children with borderline intellectual functioning living in child welfare facilities, as well as to assist young adults preparing for independence after leaving protective care.
On this day, Suyeongro Church donated 110 million won. The donation will be used for ▲ monthly rent and employment incentives for young adults preparing for independence ▲ assessment costs for children with borderline intellectual functioning ▲ free meal support for young adults preparing for independence.
Of the support funds for young adults preparing for independence, 60 million won was delivered to the Busan Child Welfare Association, which will provide monthly rent and employment incentives ranging from 150,000 to 800,000 won per month to 74 young adults who have left child care facilities. For the assessment costs of children with borderline intellectual functioning, 30 million won was delivered to Save the Children Southern Region Office, which will be used for diagnostic assessments and tailored educational expenses for children living in facilities or group homes. In addition, 20 million won was delivered to 52 Family, which operates the dedicated space "Busan Imojip" for young adults preparing for independence, to be used for free meal support and other programs for young adults.
Since 2012, Suyeongro Church has been collecting "Good Offerings" through three special early morning prayer meetings each year, and has continued to share these donations with neighbors in need and organizations requiring support in the local community.
The event was attended by Lee Joonseung, Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs of Busan City; Lee Hyunwoo, Pastor of Suyeongro Church; Park Jeonggyu, President of the Busan Child Welfare Association; Noh Seonghun, Head of Save the Children Southern Region Office; and Kang Jisu, Director of Busan Imojip.
Deputy Mayor Lee Joonseung stated, "This is a precious act of sharing, as the warm hands of citizens come together to reach those who need help most in our community," and added, "With the goodwill of Suyeongro Church, we will do our utmost to provide even more attentive and systematic support so that children under protection and young adults preparing for independence can achieve stable self-reliance."
