AWS to Supply GPUs for Ministry of Science and ICT's "AI Research Computing Support Project"

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced on the 25th that it has been selected as the final supplier of graphics processing units (GPUs) for the "2025 AI Research Computing Support Project," which is supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP).

This project is a government-led initiative aimed at strengthening the artificial intelligence (AI) research and development (R&D) capabilities of major domestic research institutions. It provides cloud-based high-performance GPU infrastructure to domestic research organizations to support the development of large language models (LLMs).

In March, AWS secured eligibility to participate in competitive bidding for public institutions through the national electronic procurement system. This contract marks the first time AWS has been selected as a GPU supplier (GPUaaS) for a government project, and it is also the first instance of a global cloud service provider participating in government-led AI research support in Korea.

AWS plans to provide cloud computing infrastructure for eight months starting from June 23. AWS's high-performance AI servers are specialized for generative AI research and LLM development.

Researchers participating in this project can directly create and operate servers through the AWS web console and independently manage their development environments and data. AWS plans to support the overall research environment, including offline training for researchers, installation of development frameworks and open source software, data backup, and transfer of research outputs.

Through this project, AWS aims to contribute to the domestic AI research ecosystem and plans to continuously expand its collaboration with the public sector in the future.
