The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is taking steps to prevent postural imbalance among students.
On June 25, the office announced that it will operate a customized posture prevention program for approximately 8,000 students from grade 4 in elementary school to grade 12 in high school, across a total of 40 schools in the province, including 32 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 3 high schools.
As part of the program, posture specialists will visit schools to measure seven specific items, including shoulder and pelvic tilt, curvature of the spine and neck, and leg alignment. Based on the analysis results, students will receive individualized exercise prescriptions and ongoing education to improve daily habits.
In addition, to enhance the professionalism of student health education, training sessions for teachers will also be conducted. During the summer vacation, a total of eight blended online and offline sessions (for 240 participants) will cover topics such as the causes of postural imbalance in students, the importance of proper posture, and practical exercises for prevention.
An official from the office stated, "Recently, there has been an increase in postural imbalance and spinal and joint disorders among children and adolescents due to increased use of digital devices, prolonged study hours, sedentary lifestyles, and lack of exercise. We will continue to support posture prevention activities so that students can develop correct posture habits on their own and a culture of prevention-focused health management can take root in schools."
