More than 200 people participated in the forum, including Superintendent Lim Taehee, officials from the Provincial Office of Education, teachers attending in person, teachers who registered to participate online, and members of the education community.

Since May, the Provincial Office of Education has been operating a series of three continuous forums focusing on the continuity of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The 4th forum centered on the theme of "Restoring the Essence of Education" and intensively addressed policy directions and educational significance regarding the introduction of the achievement evaluation system, the reform of the college admissions system, and AI-based essay and written assessments.

The main program included: a keynote presentation by Kwon Ohyun, Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University; a thematic presentation titled "Achievement Evaluation System, an Old but Unfamiliar Task: Schools" by teacher Kim Mihyang from Wow High School; opinions on the high school achievement evaluation system from the university perspective by Lim Jintaek, admissions officer at Kyung Hee University; a presentation on "Barriers to Curriculum Innovation: College Admissions?" by Seo Hyunju, supervisor at the Provincial Office of Education; and remarks by Superintendent Lim Taehee.

Participants on-site and online discussed the concept of fair assessment, effective operation of the achievement evaluation system, and innovation in both the college admissions system and the curriculum, while attentively listening to opinions from the field.

Superintendent Lim Taehee stated at the event, "If you look at the national curriculum, it emphasizes fostering thinking skills over memorization, problem-solving skills, self-directed learning, and creativity over simply choosing the correct answer." He pointed out, "Nevertheless, the reason such education is not being properly realized in schools is ultimately due to external factors, specifically the college admissions selection system."

He continued, "Although education offices, universities, and education authorities are all considering an assessment system that can be officially recognized at the national level, no clear solution has been found." He added, "The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will take the lead in establishing an AI-based essay and written assessment system to reduce teachers' assessment burdens and ensure credible evaluations that help students develop their competencies."

Superintendent Lim also urged, "I hope that all of you here will actively utilize and share the AI-based essay and written assessment system being developed by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, and become key players in transforming classrooms and Gyeonggi education."
