The forum was organized to reflect on the history of division from the Korean War to the 7·27 Armistice Agreement, and to discuss and communicate the need for inter-Korean peace and support for North Korean defectors. The Peace Policy Forum was co-hosted by Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, with support from Goyang City. More than 100 people attended, including members of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, peace experts, and local residents.

The forum was divided into two sessions. The first session explored cooperative models to strengthen the peace and unification capacity of local governments. The second session focused on discussing and sharing effective policy directions for the social integration of North Korean defectors.

Lee Kyunghye, Vice Chair of the Planning and Finance Committee of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, served as the moderator of the forum, while Cho Sungtaek, Director of the Gyeonggi Research Institute's Northern Gyeonggi Special Self-Governing Province Research Center, delivered the keynote presentation. The subsequent panel discussion featured Kim Taehyun, Director of the Peace and Cooperation Division of Gyeonggi Province; Lee Hyeongeun, Director of the Peace Foundation Division of Gyeonggi Province; Ahn Younguk, Secretary General of the Gyeonggi Province Peace and Unification Education Association; and Kim Younghee, Visiting Researcher at the North Korean Studies Institute of Dongguk University. The panel revisited the history of division from the outbreak of the Korean War to the 7·27 Armistice Agreement and discussed practical measures to strengthen unification capacity and promote the social integration of North Korean defectors in order to expand the consensus for peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Kim Taehyun, Director of the Peace and Cooperation Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Local governments can also play a key role in peace policy. Strengthening unification capacity and supporting North Korean defectors are the foundation for inter-Korean coexistence," adding, "I hope this forum will serve as a venue for empathy and solidarity toward policy implementation."

Lee Kyunghye, Vice Chair of the Planning and Finance Committee of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, said, "It was a meaningful occasion for Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Council to join forces and hold a forum to expand the consensus for peace," and added, "At the council level, we will further promote inter-Korean exchange and cooperation, unification education, and support for North Korean defectors."
