On the 24th, Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, "I will complete the great transformation of the 8th local government with a sense of responsibility until the very end of the remaining year."
Mayor Lee held a press conference marking the third anniversary of the 8th local government in the afternoon and said, "The past three years have been a time of pioneering a path that no one else has walked before."
Mayor Lee cited the following as major achievements: the world's first establishment of the Global Innovation Network for Industry (GINI), the creation of Daejeon Investment Finance as the first public investment agency in a local government, the first marriage incentive for young couples among special and metropolitan cities, and free public transportation for seniors aged 70 and above.
He also evaluated the following as top accomplishments: ranking first for five consecutive months among special and metropolitan cities in the city brand reputation index, ranking first nationwide for six consecutive months in resident life satisfaction, and ranking first nationwide in both the number and growth rate of marriages.
He then presented the following goals to expand and complete these achievements: administrative integration of Daejeon and Chungnam, the second phase relocation of public institutions to the innovation city, establishment of a space technology innovation talent training center as part of a space industry cluster triangle system, and the creation of a comprehensive semiconductor research institute.
Mayor Lee emphasized, "These past three years have been about achieving the greatest results together with the best citizens," and added, "In the coming year, I will make Daejeon a city that can smile in the end with the best possible outcomes."
