Gwangju Dong-gu Council announced on the 24th that it recently held a general council members' meeting and decided not to conduct the overseas official training that had been scheduled for the second half of this year.
The Dong-gu Council had originally allocated a budget for overseas training to be conducted in the first half of this year. However, due to the overlapping circumstances of the imposition of martial law, the impeachment of the president, and the early presidential election, the training was tentatively postponed to the second half of the year.
However, following the launch of the new administration, council members voiced the opinion that, amid high inflation and a prolonged economic downturn that has placed a burden on people's livelihoods, the council should take the lead in reducing discretionary spending and actively contribute to the recovery of the local economy. Reflecting these opinions, the council made this decision. The entire budget is scheduled to be returned at the upcoming special session in September.
Moon Sunhwa, Chairperson of the Council, stated, "Now is not the time to go abroad for training, but rather to focus the council's efforts on supporting the recovery of the local economy alongside our residents," and added, "Dong-gu Council will always prioritize the stability of people's livelihoods and fulfill our responsibilities and mission."
