Yeongju City Opens 'CCTV Integrated Control Center', Significantly Strengthening Citizen Safety Management System

A State-of-the-Art Surveillance System Built with a 5.87 Billion KRW Investment
Serving as a Hub for Crime Prevention and Disaster Response

Yeongju City has completed the construction of its 'CCTV Integrated Control Center' to protect the lives and property of its citizens, and held an opening ceremony on June 24, 2025.

This new facility replaces the outdated and cramped previous monitoring environment, resulting in a comprehensive overhaul of the city’s safety network.

The previous control room was located on the third floor of the Waterworks Office building, which was completed in 1978. The facility was constantly exposed to risks such as water leaks and pipe bursts, endangering IT equipment, and the limited space made it difficult to respond to citizens and expand equipment. Starting in April 2021, the city invested a total budget of 5.867 billion KRW, including 1 billion KRW in national funds, and completed construction in March 2025.

Afterward, over a period of about two months, more than 2,500 CCTV systems were transferred to the new control center without a single second of interruption, and full-scale operations began.

The new CCTV Integrated Control Center has a total floor area of 980 square meters, consisting of one basement and one above-ground floor. It includes key functional spaces such as a real-time monitoring room, a police observation room, an IT room, and a conference room, as well as a dedicated area for handling citizen inquiries. Outside, open safety spaces such as a walking trail connected to Solhyanggigil, a viewing deck, and a yard have been created to improve connectivity with the local community.

Security has also been enhanced. All monitoring and IT facilities are located underground, and external access routes have been separated to establish a thorough security system.

Currently, the center has 24 monitoring staff working in four teams on three shifts, providing 24-hour real-time monitoring. Last year alone, they detected and responded early to approximately 4,000 incidents and accidents. There have also been numerous achievements in crime detection, including theft, drunk driving, missing person rescues, and hit-and-run investigations. Recently, there was a case where a suspect stealing fuel from a vehicle was caught in real time and reported to the police, leading to an on-site arrest.

Yeongju City plans to strengthen its smart urban safety system, enabling immediate response to disasters and emergencies, based on its monitoring staff system and collaboration with related agencies.

Lee Jaehun, Acting Mayor of Yeongju City, stated, "The CCTV Integrated Control Center will serve as a smart safety hub, going beyond simple crime prevention to include disaster and emergency response," and added, "We will do our utmost to create a city environment where all citizens can live with peace of mind."
