Pocheon-based Esports Pro Team Qualifies for Saudi World Cup Six Months After Founding
Establishing Legal and Educational Foundations for Drone-Converged Esports Development
The Pocheon-based professional esports team 'FN POCHEON' (game: Battlegrounds) ranked third overall in the third domestic league and joined the three teams selected to compete in the Olympics.
'FN POCHEON' is a comprehensive professional team consisting of four squads: Battlegrounds, Valorant, e-Drone, and Pokemon Unite.
The team delivered an outstanding performance in the final match held on June 22, officially earning a spot in the Olympic delegation, which is composed of three Korean representative teams.
Pocheon City is actively promoting the esports industry as a new growth strategy sector and plans to nurture talent in advanced science and technology software specialized for the region.
To this end, an educational training center (bootcamp) has been established at the Pocheon Business Center to facilitate exchanges between professional players, local amateurs, and club players. Additionally, an e-Drone park is being created to provide a space where citizens and tourists can easily enjoy esports.
In August, an inaugural ceremony will be held, featuring a fan meeting and exhibition matches. In December, an esports Asia exhibition tournament for the Pokemon Unite category will take place, during which players will be selected to represent the team in the Asia League.
Pocheon City Mayor Baek Younghyeon stated, "Esports is more than just gaming; it is a regionally specialized advanced science and technology industry that fosters key talent, contributes to revitalizing the local economy, and supports population growth. By leveraging improved accessibility through enhanced transportation infrastructure, we will regularly host local tournaments and strengthen Pocheon's unique competitiveness as an 'Esports Science City.'"
Meanwhile, Pocheon City is working to establish an advanced industry ecosystem based on regional specialization by attracting accelerators to support startups for companies and research institutes, launching professional esports teams and hosting tournaments, and operating customized talent development programs in partnership with specialized high schools and universities.
