Sookyung Lee, President of the Korea Skating Union, has been nominated as the first female head of the Korean Olympic delegation.
On June 23, the Korea Sports Council announced that Sookyung Lee has been nominated as the head of the Korean delegation for the 25th Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
The Korea Sports Council selected Sookyung Lee as the head of the Korean delegation after comprehensively considering her contributions to the development of sports both domestically and internationally, her capabilities as an international referee, her leadership within the sports community, and her diverse field experience.
Sookyung Lee is a former figure skater who, after retiring from competition, gained extensive field experience by serving as an international referee and as an executive in various domestic and international sports organizations. In addition to her roles as President of the Korea Skating Union and board member of the Korea Sports Council, she was recently elected as the head of the Winter Olympic Sports Council, actively expanding her activities.
Sookyung Lee stated, "I will do my utmost to support our athletes so that they can perform to the best of their abilities and, above all, compete with pride and confidence." She added, "As head of the delegation, I will faithfully fulfill my duties to ensure that our athletes can fully focus on their competitions, achieve their goals, embody the Olympic spirit, and elevate Korea's status on the world stage."
The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics will be held in Milan, Cortina, and other locations in Italy from February 6 to 22 next year. The event will feature eight sports and sixteen disciplines, with approximately 5,000 athletes from around 90 countries expected to participate.
