The Story of "Our Mother" Reflecting Parental Devotion... Special Exhibition by Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education

Shedding Light on the Lives of Parents, the Unsung Heroes of Education
Promoting the Establishment of the Jeonnam Education Historical Relics Archive

The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education held a special exhibition titled "My Mother Was on the Path Jeonnam Education Has Walked" on June 23 in the first-floor lobby and Gallery Eum of its main building.

This exhibition was organized to shed light on the lives of Jeonnam parents who have devoted themselves to schools and students, and to record their stories as part of the history of Jeonnam education. The exhibition will run for two weeks until July 4.

In particular, this exhibition was prepared as an occasion to reaffirm the commitment of Jeonnam education to become a "true mother," taking responsibility from care to lifelong learning. The exhibition hall is decorated in blue, symbolizing the spirit of Jeonnam education, and uses the meanings of its symbol mark and traffic light colors to symbolically represent "the path Jeonnam education has walked."

Superintendent Kim Daejung said, "Schools embrace countless histories and memories of Jeonnam residents, and within them are the precious stories of parents. I hope that through this exhibition, the lives of parents will remain as a proud part of Jeonnam education's history."

The exhibition consists of four sections: "The Epic of Brilliant Spring," "The Road to School (Superman, Our Mother)," "The Inner Paths of School (Participant, Our Mother)," and "The Main Road Outside School (Lighthouse, Our Mother)." "The Road to School" introduces stories such as the maternal boat route in Gajangdo, Yeosu, the Nokdu-gil in Gijeom and Soakdo, Shinan, and the activities of the Green Mothers' Association. "The Inner Paths of School" presents the changes in parental participation in education. "The Main Road Outside School" highlights the lives and philosophies of parents from island regions such as Uido, Jungtaedo, Soakdo, and Dochodo.

At the opening ceremony, a "docent tour program" was held to help visitors gain a deeper understanding of the works and the exhibition content. The Provincial Office of Education plans to expand public engagement by touring the exhibition at Suncheonman Ecological Culture Education Center in July and at Shinan County Office in August.

This exhibition features materials directly discovered by the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, as well as 243 photographs, 265 videos, and 14 exhibition artifacts collected in collaboration with five institutions, including Shinan County Office, Jeonnam Women's Family Foundation, and the Institute for Island Culture at Mokpo National University.

Lee Seonguk, Director of General Affairs, stated, "We deeply appreciate the parents who have contributed to the growth and development of Jeonnam education. We will continue to discover and record valuable stories so that the sincere lives of Jeonnam residents can be preserved as part of the history of Jeonnam education."

Meanwhile, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education is promoting the establishment of the "Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education Historical Relics Archive" to systematically collect, preserve, and exhibit the cultural heritage of Jeonnam education. This exhibition aligns with the goals of the archive, and the office plans to continue discovering stories of the Jeonnam education community that residents can relate to.
