Approval Ratings Rise Among Those in Their 70s and in Daegu-Gyeongbuk
President Lee Jaemyung's approval rating for state affairs has risen slightly. However, daily public opinion surveys show a downward trend toward the end of the week compared to the beginning. The controversy over the vetting of Prime Minister nominee Kim Minseok and criticism of populism related to the supplementary budget appear to have had a negative impact.
According to a public opinion poll released by Realmeter on the 23rd (commissioned by Energy Economic News, conducted from the 16th to the 20th among 2,514 voters aged 18 or older, using a 100% wireless automated response method, with a margin of error of ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and a response rate of 5.6%), President Lee's approval rating was 59.3%, up 0.7 percentage points from the previous week. The negative evaluation was 33.5%, down 0.7 percentage points.
President Lee's approval rating was higher than the negative evaluation in all regions and age groups. Among those in their 70s, the approval rating rose by 1.3 percentage points to 51.8%. In Daegu·Gyeongbuk, the approval rating increased by 1.5 percentage points to 49.2% (with a negative evaluation of 41.5%).
Looking at the 'daily changes' that allow for daily public opinion analysis, the approval rating was 60.5% on the 17th (Tuesday) and 60.9% on the 18th (Wednesday), but declined to 59.2% on the 19th (Thursday) and 57.0% on the 20th (Friday). The controversy surrounding Prime Minister nominee Kim and the criticism related to the supplementary budget are estimated to have influenced this trend.
Regarding the outlook for state affairs over the next five years, the positive outlook of "will do well" rose by 1.0 percentage point to 60.4%. The negative outlook of "will not do well" fell by 0.6 percentage points to 34.3%.
In the party approval ratings (commissioned by Energy Economic News, conducted from the 19th to the 20th among 1,008 voters aged 18 or older nationwide, using a 100% wireless automated response method, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and a response rate of 5.6%), the ruling Democratic Party's approval rating fell by 1.5 percentage points to 48.4%. The People Power Party's approval rating rose by 1.0 percentage point to 31.4%. The Reform New Party recorded 4.9%, up 0.4 percentage points, and the Cho Kuk Innovation Party recorded 2.9%.
