A Village Festival Filled with Purple Flower Paths, Performances, and Hands-on Experiences
Donghwa-myeon in Jangseong-gun, South Jeolla Province, will hold the '2nd Fairy Tale Land Verbena Festival' on June 28.
The festival will take place at Lamp Park in Donghwa-myeon, under the theme 'A Fairy Tale Day, Into the Verbena Flower Path,' and will feature a variety of performances and hands-on activities.
Verbena is a perennial plant with purple flowers. Since last year, Donghwa-myeon has been planting verbena in Lamp Park and holding small-scale village festivals.

This year, the pre-festival performances will include Nanta, line dance, gogo janggu, and a stage by the Donghwa Elementary School orchestra. The main event will feature a range of performances such as popera, bian lian (face-changing), fusion ensemble, and trot.
Hands-on activities will include face painting, calligraphy, Fairy Tale Land-themed costume experience, and photo zones. There will also be handkerchief dyeing and flower tea tasting events linked to Bangjangsan Recreation Forest. In addition, the 'Forest Leisure' program at the pine tree rest area will offer cultural content such as music appreciation, wildflower postcard coloring, and poetry recitation.
Donghwa-myeon has been preparing the festival around the verbena's blooming season. Since April, about 150 residents, social organization members, and public officials have participated in planting verbena and zinnias, while the youth association has taken charge of on-site management such as watering and weeding.
Kim Hanjong, the county governor, said, "I hope the Verbena Festival, which represents Donghwa-myeon, will bring inspiration and happiness to both residents and visitors," adding, "I also recommend enjoying Jangseong's attractions such as Philam Seowon, Jangseong Lake Waterside Trail, Chukryeongsan, and Baegyangsa."
