Yongsan District in Seoul announced on June 22 that it held the "2025 Yongsan Smart City Idea Lab," a citizen-participatory urban problem-solving platform, at the district office's main conference room on June 20.

Over 50 participants, including local residents such as office workers, students, and homemakers, as well as smart city experts and district office staff, attended the event and envisioned the future of the city together. The Smart City Idea Lab proceeded with presentations of award-winning ideas from a contest, data-driven diagnosis of urban issues, and sessions for discussion and presentations.
Main topics discussed at the event included pedestrian traffic safety ("The roads where children and cars share space are too dangerous"), support services for single-person households ("We need daily life support services for single-person households"), and improving information accessibility ("We need easier ways to find information using artificial intelligence"). Participants divided into groups and engaged in passionate discussions on how to solve real-life issues using smart technology.
The discussion participants objectively diagnosed problems through public data analysis and proposed a variety of ideas. Going forward, the district will have relevant departments review these ideas, explore the possibility of incorporating them into district policies, and support continuous demonstration and implementation.
Park Heeyoung, Mayor of Yongsan District, stated, "The process of starting from residents' voices, defining problems through data, and finding solutions with smart technology is the core of a smart city," adding, "We will continue to work with residents to draw the blueprint for Yongsan as a future city."
