Free Customized Consulting for Restaurant Hygiene Rating Participants
Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province will promote and provide consulting on the Restaurant Hygiene Rating System to local food service businesses (general restaurants, cafes, and bakeries) using consumer food hygiene monitors starting July 1.
The Restaurant Hygiene Rating System is supervised by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and evaluated by the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute. It assesses 44 items related to the overall hygiene status of restaurants and assigns one of three grades: "Excellent," "Very Good," or "Good."
This round of consulting will target areas with a high concentration of restaurants, such as Youth Street in Yangjudong, the area around Jeungsan Station, and the Beomeo residential district. However, even businesses outside these areas that wish to apply for the hygiene rating can also receive consulting.
Businesses wishing to receive consulting can get free, tailored support through on-site visits by consumer food hygiene monitors, including guidance on ingredient storage and management, as well as instructions on how to apply for and submit the hygiene rating application.
In addition, since the Restaurant Hygiene Rating System and the Model Restaurant Designation System overlap in terms of purpose, target, and benefits, consulting will also be offered to help model restaurants transition to the hygiene rating system.
Restaurants designated with a hygiene grade will receive various benefits, such as priority selection for support programs, preferential loans for facility and equipment upgrades, exemption from inspections, visits, and sample collection for two years (except in cases of complaints or food poisoning), and display of their hygiene grade information on Naver and food delivery apps.
Nah Yusun, head of the Hygiene Division, stated, "We hope that through our on-site, customized consulting, many restaurants will obtain the hygiene rating designation and the overall hygiene level of local restaurants will improve."
