More than 300 participants, including International Baccalaureate (IB) education experts, field teachers, and researchers, attended the academic conference held under the theme of "IB Education and Transformative Educational Paradigms" to explore the direction and innovative strategies for future education.
In his speech, Superintendent Lim announced new reform measures for the university entrance system centered on student competencies. He also demonstrated the "High-Learning AI Essay Assessment System," which was developed by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education for the first time in the country, drawing significant interest from the attendees.
At the event, Superintendent Lim stated, "I believe that many field researchers who are deeply interested in ensuring that education meets the needs of future generations have gathered here today," adding, "I hope and support that your aspirations will become a great driving force and compass for transforming Korean education."
He continued, "Due to factors such as declining birth rates, the educational environment will change significantly within the next 10 years, making it difficult to achieve the educational reforms we desire with the current university entrance system." He emphasized, "The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is striving to ensure fair and objective assessments by introducing the 'AI Essay Assessment System,' and is also working toward reforming the university entrance system."
Superintendent Lim further stated, "We will introduce this 'AI Essay Assessment System' to the Korean Council for University Education as soon as possible and work to gradually expand its implementation," adding, "Together with 'IB education,' the 'AI Essay Assessment System' will serve as an important foundation for realizing the ultimate goal of restoring the essence of education."
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has recognized the necessity of reforming the university entrance system to restore the essence of education, and has proposed introducing essay-type questions in the College Scholastic Ability Test as well as expanding essay-based assessments in school exams. In addition, by establishing the "AI-Based Assessment System," the office is working to ensure that fair and objective assessments are widely adopted in schools.
