Evacuation Drill Completed for 384 Residents
Uiseong County in North Gyeongsang Province (Governor Jusoo Kim) has activated a proactive response system and is making an all-out effort to prepare for heavy rainfall during the monsoon season.
Jusoo Kim, Mayor of Uiseong County, is holding an emergency countermeasure meeting for a "full-scale battle" against heavy rain during the monsoon season on the 20th at the county office's main conference room.
On June 20, the county held an emergency countermeasure meeting at the county office's disaster situation room, conducting a comprehensive review of measures to minimize casualties and property damage.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, this monsoon season began in the central region on June 20 and has expanded nationwide. Due to the influence of a stationary front, heavy and substantial rainfall is expected through June 24.
In particular, the development of a low-pressure system along the stationary front has resulted in a narrow and concentrated rain band, necessitating thorough preparation for localized torrential downpours and rapidly changing weather conditions.
During the meeting, Uiseong County reviewed practical actions to respond to heavy rainfall, including: establishing a real-time information-sharing system among related agencies; conducting preemptive inspections and safety measures for disaster-prone areas and facilities; preemptively controlling high-risk areas and ensuring swift evacuation of residents; strengthening disaster notifications through SNS, village broadcasts, and CBS text messages; and transitioning the emergency duty system in phases.
Additionally, to prepare for natural disasters during the monsoon season, the county conducted resident evacuation drills on June 18 and 20 over two days, targeting 384 residents from 245 households in 38 villages adjacent to wildfire-affected areas, landslide risk zones, rivers, and reservoirs.
Approximately 880 people participated in the drill, including Uiseong County officials, social organizations, village patrols, police, and firefighters. The entire process, from rescue and evacuation route securing to emergency recovery scenarios, was thoroughly verified as if in a real situation.
Jusoo Kim, Governor of Uiseong County, emphasized, "Protecting the lives and property of our residents is the foremost mission of local government," adding, "We will make every effort to ensure that not a single casualty occurs during the monsoon season by conducting proactive inspections in each sector and maintaining close cooperation systems."
A Uiseong County official also urged, "When heavy rain is forecast, please refrain from going out and avoid areas prone to landslides or flooding. Make sure to regularly check disaster text messages, village broadcasts, and other guidance."
