"Exploring the Present and Future of Forensic Science"... Daegu Police Agency Hosts 3rd Forensic Science Development Research Seminar

Experts from Across the Country Gather in One Place
From Practical Case Studies to Advanced Technologies
Discussing the Future Direction of Forensic Science Development

The Daegu Police Agency has established a platform for knowledge exchange to explore the future of forensic science in South Korea.

The Forensic Science Division of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Daegu Police Agency (headed by Lee Seunghyeop) held the "2025 3rd Forensic Science Development Research Meeting (ACI) Research Seminar" at the Daegu Police Agency Book Cafe on June 20. The event provided a venue to share practical case studies and the latest research achievements in the field of forensic science.


The seminar was attended by more than 50 forensic science practitioners and experts from across the country, including the National Forensic Service, military investigative agencies, the Police Investigation Training Institute, and university researchers. Participants discussed a wide range of topics, including the use of scientific evidence in court, case studies in forensic examination and analysis, fingerprint and brainwave analysis techniques, and the qualities required of investigators.


The main presentations included: Inspector Kim Hanbyeol from the Police University Institute for Public Safety Science, who analyzed the reality of evidence adoption under the theme "The Value of Scientific Evidence in Court Judgments"; Jo Heejung, head of the forensic investigation team at the Daegu Police Agency, who shared practical experiences with "Field Forensic Examination Cases Centered on Forensic Medicine"; Lee Sungjin, health researcher at the Daegu Forensic Science Research Institute, who introduced the latest techniques for "Non-Human Sample Analysis"; Shin Jiweon, a doctoral researcher at Soonchunhyang University, who presented standards for investigative expertise under the theme "The Qualities of a Forensic Investigator"; Inspector Park Sohang from the Police Investigation Training Institute, who shared fingerprint collection techniques at fire scenes; and Senior Inspector Joo Ihyeon from the Daegu Police Agency, who presented a "Polygraph Response Amplification" technique utilizing classical conditioning.


Kwon Suji, an investigator from the Naval Criminal Investigation Group who attended the event, said, "It was a meaningful occasion to directly engage with and discuss vivid research achievements from experts in each field," adding, "I realized the importance of inter-agency collaboration."


Lee Seunghyeop, Chief of the Daegu Police Agency, emphasized, "Since its inception in 2001, the Daegu Police Agency Forensic Science Development Research Meeting has served as a milestone for forensic science in South Korea," and added, "We will further enhance the professionalism and public trust in forensic science through the adoption of AI technology, talent development, and strengthened cooperation with related organizations."


Meanwhile, the Daegu Police Agency Forensic Science Development Research Meeting was selected as the "Best Learning Group" by the National Police Agency in 2024.


The research group continues to advance technological sophistication and responsiveness in the field of forensic science through practice-oriented seminars and networking activities. Going forward, it plans to continuously expand its academic and practical value as a central platform for forensic science in South Korea.
