President Lee Jaemyung will include the language of the counterpart country in diplomatic messages posted on social networking services (SNS), the presidential office announced on June 21.
According to the presidential office, before departing for Canada to attend the Group of Seven (G7) summit, President Lee instructed, "When composing SNS messages, please include the language of the counterpart country as well, to demonstrate diplomatic respect and a willingness to communicate."
President Lee explained, "Not only Koreans living abroad, but also the citizens of the respective countries should be able to directly receive Korea's messages."
Accordingly, all of President Lee's messages related to bilateral summits held during the G7 summit were posted on X (formerly Twitter) in both Korean and the language of the counterpart country.
In particular, Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru also attracted attention by posting a message on SNS in both Korean and Japanese, responding in kind.
