Official Nomination for Mediation Diplomacy and Strategic Leadership
Announcement Made Immediately After Meeting with Pakistan's Army Chief
The Pakistani government has announced that it will nominate former U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. This decision reflects a high evaluation of Trump's mediation efforts, set against the backdrop of recent diplomatic moves between the two countries and meetings with senior military officials.
On June 21 (local time), the Pakistani government announced through its official social media account that it had decided to nominate President Trump, citing his diplomatic response and mediation efforts during a period of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.

The Pakistani government explained that former President Trump engaged in active diplomatic outreach with both India and Pakistan in an effort to ease the crisis, stating that this was "sufficient to recognize his leadership and strategic insight." The government argued that, given the situation at the time could have threatened the lives and security of millions, his role was a meaningful intervention for the maintenance of peace.
This nomination came immediately after Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir visited the White House in Washington and held a private meeting with President Trump. Following the meeting, the White House stated that General Munir had expressed his support for President Trump as a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
In response, President Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to mention his contribution to resolving the conflict between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, expressing his dissatisfaction that his mediation efforts between India and Pakistan, as well as between Serbia and Kosovo, have also been overlooked. He added, "Even if I resolve the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, or Israel and Iran in the future, it will still be difficult to win the prize, but the people know."
President Trump has previously claimed that he was qualified to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize as the architect of the Abraham Accords in the Middle East in 2020. He acted as a mediator to establish diplomatic relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan, but did not win the prize. He has publicly criticized former President Barack Obama for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, calling it "an award without merit."
